Gunma Japanese Three-Bundle Broom or Sweeper, Woven Sorghum
£109.00
Ex Tax: £90.83
A hand-woven sorghum broom or sweeper with a mid-length, lacquered bamboo handle, traditionally made in Gunma Prefecture, Japan. The handle length makes this broom very comfortable to use one-handed, for the easy sweeping of staircases, corners, shelves, porches, door frames and architraves and walls. Perfect for hanging in the kitchen for the end of day sweep-up. A hanging loop at the end allows this broom to be hung within easy reach. Sorghum is more commonly known as rice straw or even broom corn in the west and refers to a group of grasses used for brush-making throughout much of the world. Traditionally planted in early June, and harvested in mid August to give optimal length between the ligule — the point at which the stem splits —and tip for the production of high-quality brushes. The bristles taper gently, from 21cm to 24cm, for the optimum sweeping shape. Measures approximately 22cm x 81cm with a handle length of 34cm.
Care Advice
Keep dry when not in use. In the case of wet-use brushes, please shake any excess moisture from the bristles, and dry hanging up or on a surface with the bristles facing down. Clean brushes only when necessary with a little dish soap and hot water, making sure to dry thoroughly. Condition the wooden surface every now and then with a beeswax furniture polish, or mineral oil, to prevent cracks or splitting.
