Kurume Kasuri Mini Cotton Case, Indigo Sakura

Kurume Kasuri Mini Cotton Case, Indigo Sakura
£14.00
Ex Tax: £11.67
A miniature pencil-case style pouch, perfect for the discreet carrying of cosmetics, shaving paraphernalia, jewellery and other adornments or even feminine hygiene products. Features a fabric inspired by the shape of Sakura blossoms with white specks decorating an indigo base. Made using the traditional ‘Kasuri’ process, from the word kasureru, meaning ‘blurring’. Kasuri is an iteration of an ancient technique, where patterns are dyed into threads before weaving rather than printed onto the finished product. The result is a characteristic 'blurry' or bleeding look to patterns of this make. Kurume-kasuri is a form of this process specifically from Kurume City, Fukuoka Prefecture. The technique is recognised as an important, intangible folk cultural property of Japan and requires over thirty painstaking, handmade steps to achieve the final product. Take care around moisture and friction, as colour transfer of dyes may occur. Measures 12cm in length with a width of 5cm and height of 3.5cm.
