Japanese Waist Apron or “Maekake”
£47.00
Ex Tax: £39.17
A traditional Japanese waist apron or “Maekake” made from a thick, woven cotton canvas with a fringed hem. Popular since the 16th century, Japanese crafts and tradespeople have been wearing these long aprons designed to wrap tightly around the pelvic bone — stabilising the hips to avoid back strain. The thick nature of the fabric protects the body from heat and debris, making it ideal for gardening and other house work. The apron itself measures 72cm long not including fringes, with a width of 46cm. Each strap of the apron measures 88cm long with a width of 3cm.
Care Advice
Wash separately at 40 — 60°C, in plenty of water. Avoid softener and bleach, especially on towels as this can affect their absorbency. Do not tumble dry and reshape while damp. Linen bought “Unwashed” will shrink by approximately 7% after washing, its surface wrinkling and softening. Iron while the fabric is still damp, remembering that linen dries quickly.
