Japanese zucchini harvester, poplar handle
A small tightly curved stainless steel sickle knife with a poplar wood handle. Of a type especially useful for harvesting courgettes and similar squashes, the blade is simply hooked over the stem and whilst the fruit is gripped, pulled or eased through for release. From Asano Mokkousho of Tsubame-Sanjo, Niigata Prefecture, central Japan, who since their founding in 1950 as a specialist manufacturer of marine and agricultural gaffs have developed to produce a wide range of horticultural implements. Between 29cm and 29.5cm overall length, and with about a 4cm diameter to the hook.
