Koh-I-Noor graphite pencil, Toison D’Or, HB
£1.50
A wood-clad hexagonal pencil in HB, in Koh-I-Noor’s black, white and gold livery. During the Napoleonic wars a shortage of high quality Cumbrian graphite throughout continental Europe pushed Joseph Hardtmuth to develop a pencil lead made from powdered graphite mixed with clay and in so doing created the very first modern pencil. Today the the company he founded maintains his legacy in the production of traditional and mechanical pencils.
