Small Japanese copper grater (oroshiki)
Oroshiki, or Japanese graters made of thick copper sheet hand cut with specially sharpened gouges, shaped, and tinned in Osaka city. Traditionally used for grating wasabi, ginger, or daikon, they can also be used for garlic, or for pulping fruits and hard crisp vegetables, be that for condiments or baby food. Unlike western graters these remain unperforated meaning the pulp is collected on the surface and usually collected using a small brush. A type still favoured by the professional chefs of Japan. In 2 sizes small measuring approximately 11cm x 8.5cm, and large at 22cm x 10cm.
