Ihada bottle opener, Nisshoku / Eclipse

A sand-cast bottle opener from a foundry established in 1897 in the city of Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture. The castings are largely left 'i-hada' - with a raw cast surface maintaining any texture or discolouration drawn from the sand into which they were poured, a manifestation of their solidity, manufacture, and also their uniqueness. Designed by Oji Masanori, and named Nisshoku (Eclipse). The Nisshoku bottle opener takes its form from an eclipse and is part of a series of homewares developed in partnership with Oji Masanori in order to raise awareness amongst a wider public of both the possibilities of the material and the remarkable skills of its artisan producers. About 77mm x 60mm x 6mm.
