Japanese bear avoidance bell
£30.00

A small brass bell attached to a leatherette strap with a pop-stud closure from Asano Mokkousho of Tsubame-Sanjo, Niigata Prefecture, central Japan. Typically attached to a backpack whilst out tracking in bear country these work on the principle that bears actively seek to avoid humans and mostly only present a danger when we stumble across each other unexpectedly. Obviously bears aren't a major concern in the UK, but this is a beautifully toned bell and easily adaptable to all those things for which bells might be useful. The bell itself is just over 5cm diameter, and about the same in height.
