Kanto nata, Japanese hatchet
A sort of heavy cleaver used in Japan as a general purpose small forestry hatchet, for splitting firewood, limbing small trees, scraping bark, and pruning bushes. The blade is forged in the Japanese san mai manner, with a very hard high carbon steel edge laminated between softer more flexible layers, giving a good blend of edge retention and shock resistance. Excellent balance and an asymmetric bevel allow for brilliantly controlled cutting. With a Japanese oak handle and vinyl sheath. Between 36cm and 37cm in length, with a blade of about 14cm.
