Japanese grub hoe, carbon steel & birch
£18.00
A simple small grubbing hoe of carbon steel with a slightly reinforced lacquered birch handle. Used with a chopping action to dig and till soil amidst beds and borders, these shouldn't be forced too hard into the earth, but allowed to drop doing their own work using mostly just the weight of tool and arm. The handle is reinforced where the blade attaches to help prevent wear over time and with repeated impact - proper use is a kind of chop and pull to loosen soil, this shouldn't be used as a prying tool, no matter how tempting the shape. The blade should be wiped clean after use, stored dry, and if possible oiled if put in to storage for any length of time. About 40cm long, with a blade of 12cm.
