Tosaka broom
£105.00

Tosaka means crest and aptly describes the form into which the fine matted umber fibres of the broom-head have been bound, shuro fibres which when further refined take the name oni-ge - demon hair. Born of a collaboration between Oji Masanori and a cooperative of ‘Edo’ broom makers as a testament to their tradition and artistry, the Kake Tosaka is hand bound in Atsugi City, Kanagawa Prefecture, of shuro (Japanese hemp palm), with linen thread and copper wire about a rattan cane. The curved handle means the broom can be hung almost anywhere allowing the brush fibres to breathe and best retain their shape. The shuro palm fibre is firm yet soft enough to dust fine floors or delicate furniture and is thought to contain natural oils especially beneficial to wooden surfaces. The size is approximately 25cm wide by 76cm in length, although subject to a little variation. (Dustpan available separately.)
