Kiridashi gardener's and outdoor knife

A hand forged carbon steel knife with a walnut handle and hand stitched leather sheath. From Asano Woodworking Tsubame-Sanjo, Niigata Prefecture, Japan. Traditionally the tool used for grafting bonsai, an art that according to their maker requires a blade 'samurai sharp' for a smooth clean cut, these are certainly close to that, so do indeed make excellent grafting knives, but are also of a shape and level of finish that lends them to green wood carving and more general outdoor and bushcraft use. With an overall length of about 21cm and blade of 9.5cm to the tang.

This blade is made from carbon steel, which keeps a better edge than stainless, but will develop rust spots if left wet or kept damp and will naturally discolour in use — dry after use and oil regularly to keep it in good condition.
