Hand turned hardwood plates & bowls
£16.00 – £25.00
Hand turned deep rimmed plates and bowls of various sizes made indigenous hardwoods (mostly ash and sycamore) in the workshop of Alistair Phillips, amidst the South Oxfordshire Chiltern hills. Turned either mechanically, or weather permitting, on an outdoor pole lathe, each plate or bowl is sanded twice and oiled with a food grade vegetable oil for a utilitarian finish. Intended for daily use, they will certainly change colour with washing and time, and like all wood not sealed with synthetic resins or high VOC preparations are liable to staining from strongly coloured foodstuffs especially oily ones, and may perhaps inevitably warp slightly with heat and moisture, but dried properly and occasionally re-oiled they should last for very many years.
