London plane board large
Whole un-jointed boards hand cut and shaped in Lower Clapton by Hampson Woods who source their timber from London arborists, their own woodland in Cumbria, or traditional merchants ensuring the provenance is known. Sometimes called lacewood (although not to be confused with South American Lacewood) on account of its very distinct ray flake patterning, London Plane has been prized as a veneer, as well as for furniture, turnings, and decorative trim, but like maple and sycamore - to which it is related - has a fine grain, tight pores, and does not taint food making it an uncommonly beautiful yet ideal culinary timber. Oiled. In four sizes, small, which is very approximately 120mm x 350mm x 17mm; medium, 160mm x 400mm x 17mm; large, 200mm x 440mm x 17mm; and extra large, at about 180mm x 560mm x 17mm. The boards are obviously subject to natural variations in colour and pattern.
