Japanese Earthenware Grinding Bowl or Mortar

A deep grinding mortar with pouring spout, for grinding herbs, spices, ginger or garlic to taste, with a series of ridges formed in the unglazed interior, giving an effective grating surface. For use with a wooden pestle (not included), moved in a circular motion against the ridges. Made in Aichi Prefecture in Japan by Marumitsu Poterie, established in 1950, who create table and kitchenwares using a diverse range of natural materials (porcelain, stoneware, earthenware and open-fire resistant earthenware). Measures 167mm in diameter (180mm across spout), 82mm high, with a capacity of 920ml. Microwave and dishwasher safe, but not oven safe.
