Japanese Porcelain Flower Vase, ‘Shinogi’
£39.00
A fine, elegant porcelain vase with a narrow neck, perfect for creating small displays of flowers, buds and other foliage. This Shinogi design is named after the technique used to create decorative grooves on ceramics by carving or scraping leather-hard clay into the ridge shapes found on Japanese swords. The base of the vase is beveled, creating an illusion that it is floating. Designed by Oji Masanori for Jicon, a collaboration between Masanori and Imamura Hajime, the thirteenth generation owner of Touetsugama Kiln. The kiln originated in Mikawachi, Nagasaki Prefecture 350 years ago before relocating to Arita in Saga prefecture. Each vase uses a unique blend of porcelain stones and glazes which are then high-fired to achieve the pure white, semi-matte finish traditional to Arita porcelain ware. Every piece will have subtle variety of texture and beautiful imperfections resulting from the nature of the glazing process. Measures 4.3cm in diameter and 12cm in height.
