A handsome footed grinding mortar with pouring spout and deep , for grinding herbs, spices, ginger or garlic to taste, with a series of ridges formed in the unglazed interior using a metal comb, while the clay is soft, giving an effective grating surface once fired. For use with a wooden pestle (not included), moved in a circular motion against the ridges. Made in Aichi Prefecture in Japan by Marumitsu Poterie, established in 1950, who create table and kitchenwares using a diverse range of natural materials (porcelain, stoneware, earthenware and open-fire resistant earthenware). Measures 179mm in diameter (182mm across spout), 86mm high, with a capacity of 750ml. Microwave and dishwasher safe, but not oven safe.
