Hand poured sand-cast brass tin lined weighted tool holders or desk tidies from a foundry founded in 1897 in the city of Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture. With minimal chasing the castings are left largely ihada, that is with a raw cast surface maintaining any texture or discolouration drawn from the sand into which they were poured - a guarantee of their solidity, manufacture, and also their uniqueness. Designed by Oji Masanori who has worked with the foundry to produce modern ‘livingware’ using centuries old tradition and craftsmanship. This larger of the two tool holders measures about 96mm in diameter and 150mm in height.
