French compact umbrella, canard
A canard (teal-blue) eight ribbed compact automatic umbrella-parasol made with a SPF 50 rated 71% cotton canopies stretched over steel frames. Folding down to about 36cm these are small enough to fit in most shopping bags and good sizes shoulder bags and quickly opened with a press of a button on the handle. The company of Pierre Vaux have been making umbrellas in their Saint-Claude factory since 1920, and are currently run by Dominique and Dora Vaux, third generation umbrella makers. Still very much committed to their tradition of artisan production they now manufacture specialist runs for the haute couture houses of Paris alongside their standard 'ready-to-wear' production. The canopy is 71% cotton, 29% polyamide, the frame steel, the base handle wood, the overall length folded is a little over 90cm, the open length about 52cm, and diameter approximately 90cm.
