Aizu cotton coin purse, Japan
A classic metal-framed coin purse with clip closure, and second internal pocket with closure. Made using Aizu Momen cotton, a special fabric which is woven traditionally in Aizu county in Mutsu province, Japan. Plain woven and durable, this cotton textile has been widely worn as farm working clothes. Its characteristic weaving process involves firm starching of the warp by soaking it in wheat starch solution, prior to weaving in the weft, creating fine nodes between the warp and weft.
