French made safety pins, available in boxes of either 20 larger pins, or 48 smaller brass ones. The larger pins, supplied in an assortment of approximately 30mm, 40mm, and 45mm lengths, are made in the classic 'French' style, that is without a coil, but with the addition at the elbow of a small ball which helps to maintain tension in the spring. This style of pin prevents fabric from becoming caught, and potentially torn, in the coils of these larger pins. The smaller pins, a mix of 18mm, 23mm, and 28mm lengths, are particularly fine and sharp and are recommended to finer fabrics where larger pins might pull the weave out of shape.
